KyoAni's CEO had expressed interest in turning the site into a park and erecting a monument but the neighborhood association submitted a written request specifically asking that the site not be used for any sort of memorial saying:
“If large numbers of people are continually visiting the site, it will destroy our peaceful lifestyle.”
